Our product is a portable housing unit which is light-weight, durable and can be erected or taken down in a short span of time in order to facilitate those who live as part of moving or migrating communities due to warfare, natural disaster or those who seek medical attention.
The house itself is made from a light-weight plastic that folds accordion style for maximum space efficiency. Three of four house walls are attached during fabrication to ensure the number of parts to set up and attach are minimum for our clientele. The main structure of the house consists of a sheet that acts like a roof. This sheet will have rubber lining the hinged areas so as to eliminate precipitation entering through the top of the house. The roof will be attached to the four walls by a strap system which allows the roof to be easily attached to the walls by people of any height. You do not need to reach the roof to be able to secure it to the walls.
The next part of the structure is the door wall. This wall will be separate from the other three walls which were pre-attached because the wall has special components on it such as the door itself and a locking mechanism. To attach the door wall to the rest of the house we will place pins at the base of the wall panels to attach them to the floorboard. We will also be using long poles similar to rebar that run the length of the wall to add stability and screw one wall into another. Due to the accordion style walls, extreme weather or other variables, the rebar like poles will add rigidity and stability to ensure the walls do not collapse.
Each panel on the house walls will screw into the floorboard to ensure rigidity and that the walls do not separate from the floor. Because each wall consists of 3 panels that fold, each one will need to be attached to the floor- all except the door panel which will need to remain able to swing out to allow access. The door will have a locking mechanism in order to ensure theft is not possible. Therefore we will need to have 11 pins that attach the walls to the floorboards. We will also need to have holes located at the corners of the house so we can insert pins through the floor, into the ground so that the house does not blow away during storms or extreme weather.
The wall panels along with the roof and floor panels will be approximately 1-2 inches thick. This ensures that when takedown of the house is needed, the pieces of the house will fold easily and will not occupy too much space. The separated pieces will be kept in a bag/box like container (waiting for anthony’s description of the bag).
